GIRL KEY TO SHOOTING

A WOMAN who allegedly asked a man to retrieve her stolen car is at the centre of a brazen daytime shooting, which left two people outside a Gold Coast Pizza Hut with serious injuries, it’s believed.

A WOMAN who allegedly asked a man to retrieve her stolen car is at the centre of a brazen daytime shooting, which left two people with serious injuries outside a Gold Coast Pizza Hut.

It is understood police are closing in on the man they believe was behind last month’s shooting.

Two men, aged 19 and 29, were taken to hospital several weeks ago with bullet wounds after being found in the Coomera Square shopping centre carpark following the incident in a nearby suburb.

The 19-year-old was shot in the arm and the 29-yearold was shot in the abdomen at a scene at Willow Vale before they drove to the carpark of a Pizza Hut store at Upper Coomera.

Both have refused to assist police with their inquiries.

A manhunt later ensued for the shooter and a black Q5 Audi, which police believe was present at the scene of the attack.

Police are understood to have last week conducted a raid linked to the shootings and sources say officers have now identified a suspect, believed to be the alleged shooter.

The Bulletin previously reported text messages were exchanged between victims and the shooter before the attack.

It can now be revealed a girl allegedly claimed the pair who were later shot had stolen her car and she asked another man to get it back.

The shot men were found about 2.40pm outside Pizza Hut in the shopping complex on City Centre Dve at Upper Coomera on March 21.

Detective Inspector Chris Ahearn said police were notified about the incident by the victims about 10 minutes afterwards.

“Police are currently investigating the circumstances of a shooting that occurred this afternoon at about 2.20pm at the corner of Ruffles Road and Hotham Creek Road, Willow Vale,” he said last month.

Detective Insp Ahearn asked any person who was present at the Willow Vale location at that time to contact Crime Stoppers in 1300 333 000.

The men were taken to hospital but did not suffer life-threatening injuries.

A Coomera local and witness to the aftermath last month said he and his friends were around the corner from where the men were found.

“They got pulled out of a white Camry but we didn’t think much of it. We went a bit closer and got told by the cops we had to turn around and they put the tape up,” he said. “… It was a bit confronting, there was a fair bit of blood, as you’d expect when people have been shot.”
