Balmy weekend gives way to cooler spell

- CRYSTAL FOX

TEMPERATURES will cool on the Gold Coast this week after a spate of balmy summer-like days.

The mercury is expected to plummet to 23C on Monday, an almost 10-degrees drop from the weekend high of 32C.

Bureau of Meteorology forecaster Felim Hanniffy said this week would be a complete contrast to the weekend,

“Monday is going to be noticeably cooler, particularly inland and to the west,” he said.

The morning will be colder, with Monday’s high expected to be three degrees below average, sitting at 23 degrees.”

Tuesday’s weather will be similar, with temperatures remaining below average at 24C while locals could expect light winds and sunny conditions.

The slightly cooler weather is the result of a dry air mass which Mr Hanniffy said would dissipate before the weekend.

But he warned water temperatures would remain steady across the week.

“By Friday we are recovering again back up to 28C and then a weak trough towards the west, this will bring some slightly cooler conditions by Saturday,” he said.

“It takes a while for the ocean to warm up.

“The sea temperature will be warmer than the air on Monday.

“We will have an increase of the southerly swell overnight from Monday to Tuesday, up to 2 metres.”

The maximum water temperature in April will be 26.7C and a minimum of 24C.
