Najmaty has J-Mac feeling confident

- MITCH COHEN

STAR jockey James McDonald believes unbeaten filly Najmaty can continue on an upward spiral in Saturday’s Group 2 Percy Sykes (1200m) at Randwick.

The Peter and Paul Snowden-trained two-year-old carries a perfect record of two wins from as many starts into day two of The Championships and is a $2.70 favourite to complete the hat-trick in the fillies sprint feature.

“She is a talented filly,” McDonald said.

“The good ground will help her and she couldn't have done any more in her career.

“She is in really good form coming into the weekend and I am looking forward to getting back on her.”

McDonald (pictured) was aboard Najmaty at her first career start when she rocketed home to score on debut over the 1000m on the Kensington track at Randwick on

March 10.

He was unable to pilot Najmaty for her last-start victory at Caulfield as the Sydney champion hoop was riding at Rosehill.

The I Am Invincible filly had no issues in his absence when scoring a dominant 2¾ length romp in the Listed Redoute’s Choice (1100m) in Melbourne.

“She couldn't have been any more impressive in her win down there,” McDonald said.

“It was a soft win so she would have come through it really well.

“It just shows what kind of filly she is, she is very adaptable because not many horses can go to Caulfield and do what she did so.

“She is in this race up to her ears.”

A field of 11 runners was declared for the Percy Sykes on Tuesday before being reduced to 10 on Wednesday with John O’Shea electing to scratch Robodira.
