‘Thor’ rocks the Coast
GOLD Coast residents “woken up by Thor” as thunder rocked parts of the city early Tuesday morning can expect rain and more storms on Wednesday.
Lightning, rain and thunder prompted Division 2 councillor William Owen-Jones to post to Facebook: “In case anyone has been woken up by Thor.” He attached a screenshot of the Bureau of Meteorology’s (BOM) 128km Brisbane Radar Loop, showing storms descending on the Coast.
Some residents took to the Bulletin’s Facebook page, describing the thunder as the loudest they had ever heard.
Coolangatta had 10mm in the 24 hours to 9am Tuesday.
BOM forecast showers on Wednesday, potentially accompanied by more storms.
BOM meteorologist Rosa Hoff warned it may bring large hail and damaging winds. Showers have been forecast until at least Thursday.
