CARPE MORTEM
CARP in an Adelaide lake face a shocking future thanks to a new culling method.
The project involves “electro-fishing” in Torrens Lake — sending an electrical surge into a small section of water near schools of carp.
Fish then float to the water’s surface, temporarily stunned, allowing South Australian Research and Development Institute aquatic sciences staff to scoop up the carp with their nets and euthanase them.
Any unintended, disoriented, targets are able to swim away after about 30 seconds.
A carp.
