Abdullah shares skill
COOMERA Anglican College’s artists in residency program will include a special visit from Archibald Prize finalist Abdul Abdullah on May 17.
The renowned artist will talk to senior art students about multiculturalism, projection of identity and minority groups in Australia. He’ll address the new Queensland curriculum visual art concepts that resonate with his artwork, and demonstrate his innovative photography and painting skills.
Abdullah’s projects have engaged with different marginalised minority groups, which he communicates within his art. Various Gold Coast schools and practising educators have also been invited to attend Abdullah’s art lecture and workshop before he travels to the Queensland Art Gallery & Gallery of Modern Art for his studio residency.
The college’s head of art Liz Hampson said she was elated that Abdullah had agreed to spend time with art students and had rearranged his busy program to fly directly into the Gold Coast on Monday morning for the event at the college.
