Stormy weather passes

- LUKE MORTIMER

STORMY conditions which brought downpours, bellowing thunder and impressive lightning strikes to the Gold Coast this week lifted on Thursday ahead of an anticipated sunny weekend.

The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has forecast mostly sunny weather on Friday, throughout the weekend and into Monday, before a shower or two on Tuesday and Wednesday next week.

Minimum temperatures were expected to be slightly cooler over the weekend at 12-13C and Monday will likely see a minimum of just 11C.

The BOM has predicted a maximum of 24C on Friday and Saturday, 21C on Sunday and 23C on Monday.

On Wednesday night, much of southeast Queensland experienced thunderstorms, though the severity varied and the Coast escaped the worst of the wild weather.

Brisbane was hit by large hail, flash flooding and damaging winds in some areas.
