BRAVE BATTLE – NOW THE TRIP
A BRAVE Gold Coast girl who won a battle against a rare bone cancer is to go on a dream trip.
Mikiah Beverstock, 10, dreams of holidaying at Fraser Island with her family and best friend Sage after a 10-month battle with osteosarcoma, a rare bone cancer that affects children. Mikiah bravely faced chemotherapy as well as a full leg reconstruction from the knee down.
Her father Brent Beverstock said Mikiah finished her treatment about six months ago and was now excited to visit Fraser Island thanks to Make-A-Wish Australia.
“We went there a few years ago. It was one of the first holidays we went on as a family,” Mr Beverstock said. “She remembered that and wanted to do it again with friends and family. She’s always bringing it up.”
Make-A-Wish Australia has more than 800 critically ill children waiting for a wish due to the impacts of COVID-19.
The organisation’s volunteer arm, Wish Force, is working hard to grant as many wishes as possible by setting themselves a target of 100 wishes in 100 days.
Make-A-Wish Australia CEO Sally Bateman said the campaign was ambitious but trusted Wish Force would hit their target: “I trust our Wish Force will achieve their goal and bring smiles to the faces of seriously ill children.”
