DON’S MISSES FIRE UP MISSUS

- TRAVIS MEYN

GOLD Coast Titans cult hero Anthony Don reckons the worst thing about his current try-scoring struggle is the jibes he cops at home from wife Samantha.

“It’s a drought,” Don admitted of his nine-game streak without a fourpointer, the longest of his career. I’ve had a couple of shockers (dropping the ball over the line) but that’s footy.

“My missus bags me about it every week but that’s about it. If you are contributing to the games and the team that’s the main thing.

“You don’t really care if you don’t score a try as long as you’re making a positive contribution to the team.”

While he has been setting up tries for teammates, Don is hoping to break his duck at Suncorp Stadium on Sunday night when the Titans face the unbeaten Penrith Panthers in the final game of Magic Round.

It will be Don’s 150th game for the Titans, a remarkable effort considering he did not debut in the NRL he was 25 in 2013.

Don has gone on to become the Gold Coast’s greatest ever tryscorer (85 tries) and could end up the most-capped Titan ever.

Don, 33, will equal thirdplaced Luke Bailey on 150 games this weekend and should move past Will Zillman (156) later this year.

To eclipse Mark Minichiello (176) he would have to play on into 2022 but Don is yet to make a call on his future.
