EATING CUPCAKES IN PARADISE

- EMILY TOXWARD

A GROOVY fundraising morning tea at Surfers Paradise features decadent cupcakes judged by local MasterChef contestant Christina Laker and mood music by Blues on Broadbeach act Daryl James.

The May 18 event at Paradox Coffee Roasters is part of Cancer Council’s Australia’s Biggest Morning Tea campaign and also includes latte art demonstrations and prizes. Organised by Lou McGregor, of Finding Yellow Co creative agency, Gold Coasters are invited to attend the ticketed event and bring one cupcake to be auctioned off, with all proceeds going towards the Cancer Council.

“It’s been 15 years since my beautiful sister Karen lost her long but incredibly heroic battle with cancer,” Ms McGregor said.

“The milestones that Cancer Council have achieved since that time are phenomenal. There is now hope that with continued research and funds cancer spread can be mitigated and eventually cured for good.

“That’s why I’m doing this – for Karen, for my gorgeous survivor cousin Amy, for more families to keep the people they love around them for longer. For hope.”

She hopes 150 locals will attend the $35 fundraiser that runs from 10am-noon. Tickets at eventbrite.com/e/australiasbiggest-morning-tea-gold-coaststyle-tickets-153396379701
