I REFER to the front page of the GCB (11/06/2021), where a singer blames government, “confusion” over failure to quarantine.

I fail to see the confusion in checking the Qld Govt Web Page/ Covid, where it clearly states, anybody visiting Victoria in the last 14 days must have a Border Declaration Pass and quarantine, for 14 days if you’ve been to an exposure site,.

Perhaps it’s a matter of singing about mateship, being easier than practising it. JEFF DAVIDSON, SOUTHPORT

A FRIEND has made a very sensible suggestion for the state to consider about the neeed for incoming travellers to quarantine.

Travellers are usually quarantined in expensive inner city hotels where containing the virus is a major problem.

These hotels are generally owned by corporations which can withstand economic downturn better than many others in the industry.

His suggestion is that the state government should investigate possibly sending travellers to Tangalooma and South Stradbroke.

Accommodation there is more open and isolated, ensuring far less chance of the virus spreading to the wider community.

These resorts are struggling given the downturn from the virus, and it could help them weather the bad times and provide employment. IAN TIMMINS, MERMAID BEACH

I HAVE previously written to the

Bulletin about the impending fate of, in particular, the women and girls of Afghanistan, now that ‘sleepy’ Joe Biden has decided to withdraw American forces from Afghanistan. Australia is, of course, following his lead.

Left-wing feminists are strangely silent when it comes to their sisters in Afghanistan. Where is their outrage at the prospect that these women and girls – having begun to make advances towards education and hopefully some kind of freedom in their lives – will be left at the mercy of the Taliban and others of like ilk who are threatened by these advances and will swiftly act to destroy the progress made?

Now we have the nearcertainty that those Afghanis, who are patriots of their country and have had the courage to act as interpreters and in other capacities, are also to be left behind when the US and Australian forces withdraw.

One can only imagine what their fate will be. In fact, their appeals for help in getting out of Afghanistan to safety appear to have fallen on deaf ears. These people have aided us, with the sole dream of seeing Afghanistan rise to become a more free, equitable society.

So now I ask, will Australia desert these people and leave them to their fate when the Taliban and others arrive? Is Australia now a nation that uses people but then deserts them when they are no longer of use? We have a moral duty to bring these people to safety. KAY FELLINGA, MUDGEERABA
