Cops nab hire car evaders

FOUR people were arrested after a hire car evaded police at a vehicle border checkpoint on the M1 on Wednesday morning.

About 8.20am, police signalled for a white BMW X3 to stop at the border checkpoint, but the male driver manoeuvred around officers and drove into Queensland at high speed.

PolAir tracked the vehicle to Loganlea Road at Meadowbroo­k and four people were arrested.

A 37-year-old man of no fixed address was charged with two counts of breaching bail conditions and one count each of failing to comply with Covid-19 public health direction, failing to comply with requiremen­t to stop a private vehicle and failing to appear.

A 33-year-old Elanora woman was charged with one count each of failing to comply with Covid-19 public health direction, possessing dangerous drugs, possessing drug utensils and failing to appear. Both were in quarantine.

A 22-year-old Labrador man was fined $4135 for failing to comply with Covid-19 border directions. He was taken to hotel quarantine.
