DESERTED MANSION ON THE MARKET

- VIVA HYDE

A VERSACE-INSPIRED megamansion with a rooftop helicopter landing pad and its own luxury penthouse apartment has hit the market with a price tag just shy of $17m.

The glitzy Sails estate cuts an imposing shape across five blocks of prime riverfront land at Hope Island, but has sat empty since 2016, as owner, prominent businesswoman Sheng Li, remained overseas.

The three-level home on a 5371sq m allotment with 175m waterfrontage at 2585 Gracemere Circuit is marketed for sale via an expressions-of-interest campaign with Claire Dai and Duncan Longmore of Kollosche.

Offers of more than $16.8m were sought, with early interest received from corporate heavyweights in Russia and Indonesia, Mr Longmore said.

“It’s really a stately, majestic residence,” he said. “The proportions are absolutely oversized.

“It features a lot of Versace motifs and while it is Versace inspired in some areas, it is much more an international influence with the property reminiscent of an art deco 1920s cruise ship, hence the reason it is called Sails.”

There is a lift connecting each level of the seven-bedroom, 10bathroom house, with a billiards room and bar, cigar room and 10seat tiered cinema on the ground floor.

The self-contained penthouse apartment has two lounge areas and a bar, plus a balcony large enough to land a helicopter.

Outside is a heated swimming pool and spa with barbecue cabana, while a superyacht up to 160 feet in length can be moored at the 30m pontoon.

The home’s entry is flanked by marble lion sentinels, flagging a bold interior style influenced by the luxury Italian fashion of Versace.

Mr Longmore said the owner

had spent only two weeks inside the property since it was purchased for $11m in August 2016.

“People have tried to use it as a film set and for fashion shoots, but the owner hasn’t been interested in that and so it has just been a lockup for personal use,” Mr Longmore said.

Property records show it was on the market for 127 days in 2020 but did not sell, and was previously owned by digital entrepreneur and former Ladbrokes chief executive Dean Shannon. Mr Shannon splashed out $10.45m to secure the property in 2014.
