HOSPITALITY AND OUR ATTRACTIONS NEED YOU

-

WORK abounds. Whether it is in the regions of rural Queensland or the heart of the Gold Coast tourism hubs, there are jobs going aplenty. Today’s newspaper reveals the city’s hospitality operators are crying out for not just staff, but good staff. That’s an important distinction. They don’t just want anyone serving the locals and our soon-to-be flood of inbound interstate visitors absolutely frothing about having a good time and enjoying a breakaway.

We will welcome them with open arms.

But neither does the city want to just any old humdrum hospitality staffer greeting our visitors and leaving important lasting impressions.

The frontline of our venues, accommodation and attractions are going to be crucial in what Opposition leader David Crisafulli more than a year ago termed the “knife fight” for visitors that would emerge between states post-pandemic.

Whether we ever end up truly “post-pandemic” is another argument entirely.

But he was right about the knife fight. Competition for customers will be fierce.

The Gold Coast has a great offering and story to tell – and we need our frontliners on the social side to do their bit.

The pandemic has resulted in a huge loss of employee capital due to the orders from Prime Minister Scott Morrison for foreigners to return home. But now it is time for the locals to step in and step up.
