Jonker to defend his MM crown

CHAMPION trainer Tony Gollan will set freshly minted Group 1 winner Jonker for a defence of his Magic Millions Sprint crown in January.

Gollan will only give Jonker one run over the summer at the Magic Millions with an eye towards keeping him fresh for another Victorian campaign.

Gollan was thrilled to have Jonker back to his competitive best, admitting it hurt to see him get well beaten prior to breaking through for the win.

“Every run he had been right there in the finish and that was the job I felt I had to do when I got him, to see if he still had that competitive fire in him,” Gollan said.

“He showed first-up when he broke the track record that he still had it.”
