Former Bulletin base proves just the space for storage venture

- QUENTIN TOD

A BIG Molendinar site that was a long-time base for the Gold Coast Bulletin is to become home to a top-shelf $60m industrial and storage unit project.

The strata-title boutique venture is planned by the Sydney-based My Space group, associated with the families of Mark Arnold and Robert McLaurin, and is intended to include a display featuring the history of the Bulletin.

It will be undertaken on a 1.77ha site at 385 Nerang Rd, bought for $7.535m.

The newspaper was based at the site from 1978 to 2013, when it moved into Southport offices.

My Space also has paid $3.85m for an adjoining property, at 4 Industrial Ave, that houses the former Bulletin printing-press building.

Mark Arnold, joint CEO of My Space, yesterday said the 6212sq m site and its tenanted building would be retained and not included in the Nerang Rd project.

MySpace has been investing in the Gold Coast for many years and has two strata unit projects underway, the major one a near-sellout 46title venture called Burleigh HQ.

The other one is a sellout 20 units in Molendinar’s Enterprise Ave.

Mr Arnold said the Nerang Rd project was being architecturally designed and the units would be in a park-like setting.

“We intend to include curved glass walls and also green walls.

“The project will include a common area with two highpressure washbays and vacuuming facilities for owners’ toys, such as cars and boats.

“We intend to have mature plantings across the site from day one.”

The My Space “park” will include 76 mini industry and warehouse units with airconditioned mezzanine offices, kitchenettes and bathrooms with showers.

The mezzanine offices will be an option in the project’s 28 industrial units.

Prices are expected to start at $175,000.

Mr Arnold said the lodging of a development application was imminent.

The Nerang Rd and Industrial Ave properties have been bought from former VIP Petfoods and Darrell Lea chocolates owner Tony Quinn.

He bought them for $7.15m in 2018 and cleared the Nerang Rd site. Ray White’s Michael Willems said there were four contenders when Mr Quinn marketed them.
