THE Games are coming and already the splash of snouts going into the Olympic trough can be clearly heard, with the so-called club The Council of Mayors wanting $300,000 plus for the GC to join.

It’s well done to Tom Tate for seeing that request for what it was and opting out.

As councillor Tate said, “the GC is hosting nine events and with our past experience we should automatically qualify to be part of the organising committee”.

Micnael Payne who has been involved in many winter and summer Games and as reported in this paper indicated strongly that engagement with private equity outside of Queensland could be beneficial, fat chance of that happening with parochial

Annastacia Palaszczuk holding the reins.

The games are 11 years away, will they be a success? Who knows? But my guess is that usual Queensland will muddle through. DAVID LISSENDEN MAIN BEACH

TOM Tate, our illustrious mayor, is a little out of sorts, not receiving the support he feels he needs, even demands, from the Coast’s federal MPs, to guarantee him a position on the Olympics organising board, and missing out to Redlands.

Slight aspects of the run up to, and during the Commonwealth Games, were irrefutably chaotic, which cannot be denied.

I think the Honourable Stuart Robert, of Fadden electorate, put it best that the Coast has done very well from federal coffers so far, and on other projects will continue to do so, into a splendid ScoMo future of three-year term after term to infinity.

In other words, Mayor Tom, shut it.

IS THERE any eminent Australians prepared to discuss the running of Parliaments around the country into the modern era?

We are still working in a system created years ago. Question time is a prime example.

Do we really need state governments? Parliaments are costing us billions to run. Are we getting value for money?

I consider a sensible debate as soon as possible is needed for the future of our children and grand children.

LISTENING to Anthony Albanese’s speech, one realises how cheap words are and how gullible those are who know no better.
