WHEN PEOPLE ARE AWAY FROM THE CITY AND AWAY FROM THEIR LIVES, PARTICULARLY AFTER COVID-19, IT WILL GIVE THE EVENT AN ADDED ELEMENT OF CONNECTION AND FREEDOM JULIA STONE

ONE of Australia’s favourite duos has announced they are headlining a boutique music event – their first time performing together after a two-year hiatus.

Angus and Julia Stone will headline The Long Sunset on April 30 at the Elysian fields in Canungra.

Ms Stone said they were excited to experience the feeling of a live audience as a duo once again.

“Every time we play the Gold Coast it has such a great atmosphere,” she said.

“It is very vibrant and fun.

“The last show we did on the Coast was an outdoor festival and I remember thinking it felt like playing Splendour in the Grass.”

The pair were thankful to have the opportunity to join other bands in creating a unique experience for Gold Coasters, she said.

“When people are away from the city and away from their lives, particularly after Covid-19, it will give the event an added element of connection and freedom,” she said.

Ballpark Music, Babe Rainbow, Jack Gray, Nice Biscuit and Clea are also on the bill at the event.

Ms Stone said they made the choice to make a comeback as a duo after they did an acoustic session, playing their 2021 album, Life is Strange.

“When we got the offer to play the festival, the obvious answer was yes,” she said.

“It was never our plan to tour that record.

“The album was written for the soundtrack of a computer game and during the promos we got to play ‘Love

Song’ and ‘Blue’, it was just a taste to see how fun it would be to play live,” Ms Stone said.

They were grateful to be given the headlining spot which meant they would have more time to play a collection of their songs, she said.

“We will play all the songs that people sing along to but we are most excited to play songs like ‘Santa Monica Dream’.

“Angus and I love singing together and harmonising, it was one of the reasons why we started music.”

Ms Stone said she was hopeful for the future of the live music industry and was excited to reconnect with old friends again.

“It was such a big part of all artists lives for such a long time,” she said.

“We haven’t had much contact with our bands, our stage crew or lighting crews.

“We all feel a lot of support from being in a community, so I feel we will all connect again in a really strong way.

“People are capable of experiencing joy in the darkest of times but certainly music and dance lifts us up as a species.

“Without it, life is a bit grim and lonely sometimes,” Ms Stone said.
