NO PLACE FOR VILE HATE IN OUR COMMUNITY

-

THE vile Nazi paraphernalia plastered outside a Jewish place of worship in Isle of Capri is an act of hate with the intent to cause fear. Those behind this heinous act can make whatever noise they like about their intentions but the minute these filthy flyers were distributed and pinned up there was only ever one goal in mind.

And by targeting this attack on a day where people of the Jewish faith remember the atrocities of the Holocaust during World War II – in which six million peopled were killed – and the incredible stories of those who were able to escape the grip of the Nazis, this was indeed an act of malice.

While some members of the Jewish community have told the Bulletin that they now fear the Gold Coast is no longer a safe place for them, we as a community need to stand up and prove otherwise.

The Gold Coast is an incredible place where people from so many different faiths and walks of life have made their home.

It is an inclusive environment and one in which people should be able to recognise their beliefs without suffering what in this case is hideous persecution.

We as a community must condemn and do what we can to stamp out this sort of hate. If we encounter it or even know those behind it then this must be passed on to the authorities to be dealt with swiftly.

And perhaps it is time for those in power to look at tougher measures when it comes to people caught using such symbols of hate in a menacing fashion.

Nobody should ever have to be confronted with this type of terror because of their beliefs and we simply shouldn’t tolerate it.
