WOLVES BITE BACK AT PIZZEY PARK

- MARK MAJDANDZIC

KINGSCLIFF Wolves have turned around a 2-0 halftime deficit to earn a big three points away from home against Burleigh with a 5-3 win.

The Bulldogs started the first half well and capitalised off two created chances, scoring both times to take the advantage through the opening exchanges with goals to Andrew Mackintosh and Gabriel Legaspi.

Despite numerous opportunities in the attacking third, Kingscliff could not capitalise and one would wonder if they could salvage even a point out of the clash.

However, second half proceedings could not go any better for the Northern NSW side as they came out with a bang, scoring their first within minutes of the beginning of the half through James Brennan and then levelling proceedings through Dom Morosini.

It got from bad to worse for the home side with the Wolves taking the lead only to be pegged back by another Bulldogs goal making for an interesting last half-hour.

It was the Wolves however who were to strong, continuing their onslaught in the attacking third with James Brennan finishing off his hattrick and Xavier Sproule putting the finishing touches on a fantastic come-from-behind victory for the Wolves.

The Bulldogs would feel disappointed with the end outcome as their unexpected start to the season could have gotten even better if they were to take maximum points from the clash.

The win sees Kingscliff leapfrog Burleigh into fifth place on nine points with both teams still having a game in hand over league leaders Palm Beach and Broadbeach who currently sit in third place.

Both sides are due to face newly promoted Tallebudgera Valley in their catch up fixtures who can pose a threat in the attacking third but haven’t had the best start to their tenure in the Premier

League, falling at the hands of Palm Beach 9-1 over the weekend.

In other Premier League results, Runaway Bay had their biggest win since returning to the Premier League with a 10-1 rout of Nerang away from home.

Broadbeach bounced back after their recent defeats running out 4-2 victors over Musgrave at Nikiforides Family Park to continue their pressure at the top of the table in pursuit of the league title.

Robina City and Southport was postponed due to neither side being able to host the match with waterlogged pitches.
