MICK DOOHAN DETERMINED TO SELL MEGA MANSION
AUSSIE motorcycling champion Mick Doohan is taking his sprawling Gold Coast estate to auction in a renewed marketing push.
Known as Diamond Head, the 18ha estate has panoramic views, huge river frontage and a lavish mega mansion at its heart.
The property, which he has rented to the likes of Brad Pitt and Johnny Depp, first hit the market, in March, 2021.
Eighteen months later and Amir Prestige is taking the property to auction on September 28.
“We are taking it to auction to put a bit of urgency on the sale and let buyers know we are selling,” said Amir Mian, principal of Amir Prestige.
“Of course there’s no desperation to sell, it’s just it’s spring selling season and we want buyers to come and have a look and perhaps secure the property in time for Christmas.
“It’s a special property and properties like this should be auctioned in my opinion.”
The estate mansion was built by Doohan’s brother, Scott, a former motorcycle racer turned builder, who heads the award-winning Gold Coastbased Doohans Developments.
Among the mansion’s highlights are eight bathrooms with heated marble
floors, a 2000-bottle wine cellar, cinema, gymnasium, pool rooms, a trophy room, four offices, a six-car garage, private jetty, a landing strip for a light aircraft and a space to land and house a helicopter.
There is also an airconditioned boathouse, guesthouse and caretaker’s residence.
Mr Doohan, who won five consecutive 500cc motorcycle world championships in the 90s, is now a multimillionaire businessman with global interests.
The property, which Mr Doohan bought for $1.7m in 1996 has been in and out of the international spotlight over the years.
In 2015 it became the centre of a legal battle between actor Johnny Depp and his then wife Amber Heard.
The couple were renting the estate while Mr Depp was in Australia filming Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales.
