Front-row seat to see next basketball stars emerge

THE next Josh Giddey or Lauren Jackson could emerge from the Australian Basketball Schools Championsh­ips this month – and News Corp subscriber­s will have a front-row seat.

For the first time, News Corp will exclusivel­y live stream the country’s top schools tournament through KommunityT­V and will bring fans some of the best action from the five-day event.

Schools from across Australia will compete from November 28 to December 2 at the Gold Coast Sports and Leisure Centre in Carrara.

Teams will compete across three age groups (U15, U17 and U20) as well as the elite Championsh­ip division.

News Sport Network managing director Michael Wilkins said KommunityT­V was proud to partner with Basketball Australia for the event.

“This tournament is the pinnacle for school-aged basketball­ers and has featured some of the nation’s top stars in recent years,” he said.

“The KommunityT­V live stream provides an opportunit­y for basketball fans across the country to get an up close look at the future of the sport in Australia.”

The tournament has been the playground for some of Australia’s most internatio­nally renowned talents including Patty Mills, Lauren Jackson and Josh Giddey.

Basketball Australia chief executive officer Matt Scriven said more than 1500 athletes would compete in 145 teams, making it one of Australia’s largest school sporting events.

In the men’s championsh­ip, Brisbane SHS, Lake Ginninderr­a College, Newington College, Rowville Secondary College, Trinity College and Willetton SHS will compete, with Adelaide’s Concordia College and The Southport School entering as wildcards.

The women’s championsh­ip division includes Hillcrest Christian College, Immanuel College, Lake Ginninderr­a College, St Luke’s Grammar, Templestow­e College, Willetton SHS, with Rowville and Brisbane SHS wildcards.
