The Future stage is set
THE owner of a premier Gold Coast real estate agency feels the city residents have got the balance right: they take the place seriously but not themselves.
Harcourts Coastal owner Dane Atherton – whose firm is a Future Gold Coast major sponsor – said Gold Coasters had a real pride and “vibe” about themselves these days.
“There is a colloquialism and a localism that makes the Gold Coast awesome. When overseas and you hear people go ‘Where are you from?’ ... you say ‘I’m from the Gold Coast and there is a real vibe to a person from the Gold Coast.
“Gold Coasters take their city seriously – but they don’t take themselves too seriously,” he said.
“Younger people do want to stay here now.”
Mr Atherton said Harcourts Coastal decided to get involved with the Bulletin’s Future Gold Coast campaign as an “opportunity for us to contribute to shaping the future of our great city”.
“We have an enormous opportunity where we are still very much a young city. We are young and the decisions we make now will shape the future. We need to be thinking bigger because whether we like it or not, embrace it or fight it, our growth is inevitable and we have to prepare.”
Mr Atherton said not only had the two years of the Covid pandemic “accelerated” the migration into the Gold Coast “but I also feel like it shows we are on the right track” with the quality of developments, opportunities available and southern investment.
Mr Atherton will join a high-powered panel for a provocative stage chat and questions at the Future Gold Coast luncheon at Sea World on Wednesday, November 30.
He’ll be joined on stage by Star Entertainment Group’s new CEO Robbie Cooke, Village Roadshow Theme Parks CEO Clark Kirby, Queensland Airports CEO Amelia Evans and Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate.
