Cooroy car fire blocks the Bruce
THE Bruce Highway ground to a halt thanks to a car on fire, which saw a man hospitalised, south of Gympie yesterday.
The car, located just before the Belli-Creek Road exit at Cooroy, caught fire around 3pm.
The vehicle was on the off ramp of the Bruce Highway.
Queensland Fire and Emergency Services were quick to respond to the scene which caused the highway to be temporarily closed.
When the two QFES crews arrived on scene they found the blaze to be "well established".
For some time the stretch of highway was closed as the firefighters battled the blaze.
It was extinguished at 3.18pm however, but one lane remained reduced.
It created traffic headaches for northbound motorists heading towards Gympie and the Fraser Coast.
Emergency services from both QPS and QAS were required on scene and the highway was opened shortly after.
Queensland Ambulance Service media said a man in his 20s has sustained burns to his legs.
A woman is also involved in the blaze but not hurt.
They were both transported to Gympie Hospital in stable conditions.
