Cooroy car fire blocks the Bruce

THE Bruce High­way ground to a halt thanks to a car on fire, which saw a man hos­pi­talised, south of Gympie yes­ter­day.

The car, lo­cated just be­fore the Belli-Creek Road exit at Cooroy, caught fire around 3pm.

The ve­hi­cle was on the off ramp of the Bruce High­way.

Queens­land Fire and Emer­gency Ser­vices were quick to re­spond to the scene which caused the high­way to be tem­po­rar­ily closed.

When the two QFES crews ar­rived on scene they found the blaze to be "well es­tab­lished".

For some time the stretch of high­way was closed as the fire­fight­ers bat­tled the blaze.

It was ex­tin­guished at 3.18pm how­ever, but one lane re­mained re­duced.

It cre­ated traf­fic headaches for north­bound mo­torists head­ing towards Gympie and the Fraser Coast.

Emer­gency ser­vices from both QPS and QAS were re­quired on scene and the high­way was opened shortly af­ter.

Queens­land Am­bu­lance Ser­vice me­dia said a man in his 20s has sus­tained burns to his legs.

A woman is also in­volved in the blaze but not hurt.

They were both trans­ported to Gympie Hos­pi­tal in sta­ble con­di­tions.
