MP calls for state help

The Gympie Times - - NEWS -

THE State Government has been called on to support landholders, primary producers, businesses, property and home owners who have been affected by yesterday’s hail storms.

Member for Gympie Tony Perrett said he had written to the Government for help for the devastating losses.

“The spread of these storms has impacted numerous home and property owners, landholders and primary producers with many reporting that they have incurred significant losses,” Mr Perrett said.

“Thankfully no lives have been lost although there have been reports of injuries.

“I advised the Minister for Agriculture that small crop producers have been badly hit and are reporting heavy losses with some instances of entire crops being destroyed and workers laid off.

“Crop and livestock losses, as well as personal assets and household losses, from both last month’s bushfires and now hail will severely affect economic activity in these regions.

“This is when government needs to respond quickly and provide advice on what assistance is available.”
