GYMPIE ON FLOOD WATCH
A FLOOD watch was issued for waterways between Gladstone and Sunshine Coast including Gympie ahead of significant rain last night.
The BoM has advised minor flooding is possible across the flood watch area this weekend.
High rainfall was forecast for last night and expected to continue during today.
Minor flooding is possible across the flood watch area and isolated heavier rainfall may lead to localised flooding.
As the northern and southern extents of the flood watch are expected to get less rain, fall totals, significant river level rises in these areas is less likely.
The heaviest rainfall was expected to begin across inland areas, including the Don, Dee and Upper Burnett river catchments last night and extend to the coast today.
There is a high chance of showers tomorrow.
Given the lag in the river systems, flooding in areas lower in the catchments may worsen even if the rain eases. That flooding could then ease as the lower catchment drains.
The dry conditions across the area are expected to reduce the risk of significant runoff.
Rainfall totals and river rises are expected to be less than in the Wide Bay catchments in October last year. Catchments likely to be affected include the Mary River and Sunshine Coast rivers, creeks.
