Be smart when you shop this silly season

The Gympie Times - - YOUR SAY - OUR VIEW SHELLEY STRACHAN shelley.strachan@gympi

I AM off to my first Christmas party of the season today so there is no point in denying it – the silly season is here.

The stores are fringed with Christmas decorations and rolls of wrapping paper, Nugget and Al are talking about it on the radio, and pretty soon little pine trees will start disappearing from the forestry and the odd rural road reserve and popping up in lounge rooms everywhere.

This Christmas, before work starts on the Gympie Bypass, The Gympie Times is urging shoppers from throughout our region and beyond to #getitingympie.

In Gympie and tucked away in the corners of our region are dozens of unique stores of all shapes and sizes, operated by local families and individuals – where the parking is easy, the prices are competitive if not lower, and where there is no big drive and no big crowds.

Shopping local this Christmas will help create local jobs and boost the local economy.

There is no better opportunity to harness the spending power of a community than in the lead-up to Christmas, it is such a special time of the year.

#getitingympie this year and experience the benefits of supporting your local community, neighbours, friends, acquaintances and family. And have a Merry Christmas! That’s right. I said it.
