Hit the markets

The Insider's Guide to New Zealand - - NORTH ISLAND -

Something magic happens every Saturday in Matakana. People appear from thin air, produce disappears and shopping bags seem bottomless as they are crammed with artisan products. The Matakana Village Farmers’ Market is an institution and draws crowds from a long distance away. During the summer, car parks are stalked and traded like rare gems and the line for the ATM snakes between the heaving crowds of shoppers. Even on a cold winter morning, a steady stream of loyal market fans brave the chill to get their weekly stores.
