Reptile park

The Insider's Guide to New Zealand - - NORTH ISLAND -

Ivan Borich has owned New Zealand’s only reptile park for more than 50 years. Once a zoo, the hillside site is now home to three alligators, a pair of capuchin monkeys and more than 100 other cold-blooded, reptilian species – including a stroppy gecko that once attempted to eat a larger centipede. But there is more to the park than gung-ho geckos. Ivan’s collection of critters will have kids cheering, playing games of skink hide-and-seek and persuading parents to get a step closer to hairy tarantulas. Open daily 10am-5pm. 27 Ti Point Road, Leigh, (09) 422 6021, reptilepark.co.nz
