The Insider's Guide to New Zealand - - SOUTH ISLAND -

Rosa Davison began her search for Shangri-La 15 years ago. The landscape gardener wanted a place where she could let her creative juice spill over. She found it in a piece of scorched earth, 25 minutes south of Blenheim, flanked by a moody sea and parchmentcoloured cliffs. Today, the property has been planted with thousands of natives, including some rare species. Rosa says she loves to share the property with others so they can enjoy what she and her family have always loved. Paripuma can accommodate up to 12 guests in the house; there is a stand-alone B&B and the property can be booked exclusively for weddings and events.

Private tours of Paripuma's garden can also be arranged. It's a garden of note – four years ago it won the Landscape Award from the Marlborough District Council at the Marlborough Environment Awards and it is often included in Nelmac Garden Marlborough. 243 Renners Road, Lower Dashwood, Blenheim, (021) 221 3833, paripuma.com
