There were plenty of pros to ad­mire the charms and chal­lenges of the Tokarahi Golf Club’s course in Fe­bru­ary 2015 when the club be­came the first nine-hole golf course in the coun­try to run a pro-am tour­na­ment. Thirty-nine pro­fes­sional golfers from all over Aus­tralia and

New Zealand teed off with 60 am­a­teurs from the cen­tral and south­ern South Is­land.

The exquisitely land­scaped golf course with its mix of steeply un­du­lat­ing and flat fair­ways and greens lies in the heart of the Maerewhenua Val­ley and at the foot of the Kakanui Moun­tains. The nine-hole Kurow Golf Club is re­fresh­ingly flat and very green with art­ful land­scap­ing where all the fair­ways and greens are fully ir­ri­gated and main­tained to a high stan­dard. Reg­u­lars boast of the lovely club rooms and fa­cil­i­ties. It is a plea­sure, they say, to be there even if all you want to do is take a gen­tle stroll. Green fees $15; club and cart hire avail­able.
