There were plenty of pros to admire the charms and challenges of the Tokarahi Golf Club’s course in February 2015 when the club became the first nine-hole golf course in the country to run a pro-am tournament. Thirty-nine professional golfers from all over Australia and
New Zealand teed off with 60 amateurs from the central and southern South Island.
The exquisitely landscaped golf course with its mix of steeply undulating and flat fairways and greens lies in the heart of the Maerewhenua Valley and at the foot of the Kakanui Mountains. The course is what professional golfers call “challenging”. Par 70 (5597m). Green fees $20. 215 Dip Hill Road, Livingstone (11 kilometres inland from Duntroon), (03) 432 6830
The nine-hole Kurow Golf Club is refreshingly flat and very green with artful landscaping where all the fairways and greens are fully irrigated and maintained to a high standard. Regulars boast of the lovely club rooms and facilities. It is a pleasure, they say, to be there even if all you want to do is take a gentle stroll. Green fees $15; club and cart hire available.
