(make 12 in yarn B and 4 in yarn D) Us­ing 4mm nee­dles, cast on 31 sts. Row 1: *K1, P1; rep from * to last st, K1. Re­peat this row un­til work meas 15cm. Cast off.

LOOP STITCH SQUARE

(make 12 in yarn C and 5 in yarn A) Us­ing 4mm nee­dles, cast on 36 sts. Row 1: *K1, Sl 1; rep from * to last 2 sts, K2. Row 2: Knit. Row 3: *K2, Sl 1, rep from * to end. Row 4: Knit. These 4 rows form the pat­tern. Rep rows 1-4 un­til square meas 15cm. Cast off, but not too loosely.

IN­TAR­SIA ZIGZAG

(make 4) Us­ing 4mm nee­dles and yarn B, cast on 32 sts. Us­ing the in­tar­sia method, twist­ing yarns to­gether at the back of the work when chang­ing colour, work Chart A un­til square meas 15cm. Cast off us­ing yarn B.

FAIR ISLE ZIGZAG

(make 4) Us­ing 4mm nee­dles and yarn B, cast on 35 sts. Us­ing the Fair Isle method, strand­ing colour not in use loosely across the back of the work, work Chart B across all sts, re­peat­ing rows 1-12, 3 times. Cast off us­ing yarn B.

SLIP STITCH ZIGZAG

(make 4) Us­ing 4mm nee­dles and yarn C, cast on 40 sts. Work from Chart C un­til square meas 15cm. Cast off us­ing yarn C.

STRANDED ZIGZAG

(make 4) Us­ing 4mm nee­dles and yarn C, cast on 35 sts. Us­ing the Fair Isle method and strand­ing yarn C on the front of your work to create the strands, work from Chart D un­til square meas 15cm. Make sure you don’t pull your strands too tight. Cast off us­ing yarn C.

TO MAKE UP

Sew in ends. Block squares, fol­low­ing any yarn care in­struc­tions on the ball band. Sew squares to­gether, us­ing the pho­to­graph on the right as a guide.

Us­ing 4mm cir­cu­lar nee­dles and yarn B, *pick up one st from a cor­ner, pm, pick up 217 sts, pm, re­peat from * 3 more times. Join to work in the round. 872 sts. Round 1: *K1, slm, (P1, K1) to 1 st be­fore marker, P1, slm; rep from * 3 more times. Round 2: * K1, slm, M1, (K1, P1) to 1 st be­fore marker, K1, M1, slm; rep from * 3 more times. Change to yarn D. Round 3: *K1, slm, (K1, P1) to 1 st be­fore marker, K1, slm; rep from * 3 more times. Round 4: *K1, slm, M1, (P1, K1) to 1 st be­fore marker, P1, M1, slm; rep from * 3 more times. Change to yarn C.
