Play with different colourwork techniques to create this luxurious patchwork blanket

MOSS STITCH SQUARE

(make 12 in yarn B and 4 in yarn D) Using 4mm needles, cast on 31 sts. Row 1: *K1, P1; rep from * to last st, K1. Repeat this row until work meas 15cm. Cast off.

LOOP STITCH SQUARE

(make 12 in yarn C and 5 in yarn A) Using 4mm needles, cast on 36 sts. Row 1: *K1, Sl 1; rep from * to last 2 sts, K2. Row 2: Knit. Row 3: *K2, Sl 1, rep from * to end. Row 4: Knit. These 4 rows form the pattern. Rep rows 1-4 until square meas 15cm. Cast off, but not too loosely.

INTARSIA ZIGZAG

(make 4) Using 4mm needles and yarn B, cast on 32 sts. Using the intarsia method, twisting yarns together at the back of the work when changing colour, work Chart A until square meas 15cm. Cast off using yarn B.

FAIR ISLE ZIGZAG

(make 4) Using 4mm needles and yarn B, cast on 35 sts. Using the Fair Isle method, stranding colour not in use loosely across the back of the work, work Chart B across all sts, repeating rows 1-12, 3 times. Cast off using yarn B.

SLIP STITCH ZIGZAG

(make 4) Using 4mm needles and yarn C, cast on 40 sts. Work from Chart C until square meas 15cm. Cast off using yarn C.

STRANDED ZIGZAG

(make 4) Using 4mm needles and yarn C, cast on 35 sts. Using the Fair Isle method and stranding yarn C on the front of your work to create the strands, work from Chart D until square meas 15cm. Make sure you don’t pull your strands too tight. Cast off using yarn C.

TO MAKE UP

Sew in ends. Block squares, following any yarn care instructio­ns on the ball band. Sew squares together, using the photograph on the right as a guide.

BORDER

Using 4mm circular needles and yarn B, *pick up one st from a corner, pm, pick up 217 sts, pm, repeat from * 3 more times. Join to work in the round. 872 sts. Round 1: *K1, slm, (P1, K1) to 1 st before marker, P1, slm; rep from * 3 more times. Round 2: * K1, slm, M1, (K1, P1) to 1 st before marker, K1, M1, slm; rep from * 3 more times. Change to yarn D. Round 3: *K1, slm, (K1, P1) to 1 st before marker, K1, slm; rep from * 3 more times. Round 4: *K1, slm, M1, (P1, K1) to 1 st before marker, P1, M1, slm; rep from * 3 more times. Change to yarn C. Round 5: *K1, slm, (P1, K1) to 1 st before marker, P1, slm; rep from * 3 more times. Round 6: *K1, slm, M1, (K1, P1) to 1 st before marker, K1, M1, slm; rep from * 3 more times. Change to yarn A. Round 7: *K1, slm, (K1, P1) to 1 st before marker, K1, slm; rep from * 3 more times. Round 8: *K1, slm, M1, (P1, K1) to 1 st before marker, P1, M1, slm; rep from * 3 more times. Cast off all sts.
