FLOW­ERS, DI­A­MONDS and zigzags dec­o­rate this chil­dren’s jumper by Sophie Jor­dan. She has picked a cheer­ful colour pal­ette for her Fair Isle de­sign, us­ing the in­cred­i­bly soft and warm Al­paca 4ply yarn from DROPS. The up­per body and sleeves fea­ture the clas­sic lice stitch pat­tern, here knit­ted in stripes of four dif­fer­ent colours. The body is worked bot­tom-up in the round to the arm­holes, then split into back and front sec­tions which are worked sep­a­rately.

BODY

Us­ing 2.5mm cir­cu­lar nee­dles and yarn B, cast on 160 ( 170: 180: 190: 200) sts. Pm and join to work in the round, tak­ing care not to twist sts. Twisted Rib round: *K1tbl, P1; rep from * to end. Rep Twisted rib Round un­til piece meas 4 ( 4: 5: 5: 5) cm from cast-on edge. Change to 3.5mm cir­cu­lar nee­dles. Next round (inc): Knit to end, AT THE SAME TIME inc 20 ( 22: 24: 26: 28) sts evenly across round. 180 ( 192: 204: 216: 228) sts. Work Chart A to end of Round 63 ( 65: 67: 69: 69). SPLIT FRONTS AND BACKS

Next row (RS): Us­ing yarn A, K90 ( 96: 102: 108: 114) sts in yarn A and turn. Cont on these sts and leave rem 90 ( 96: 102: 108: 114) sts on a holder. Us­ing yarn A, purl 1 row. TO MAKE UP

Join both shoul­der seams us­ing back­stitch or mat­tress stitch.

NECKBAND

With RS fac­ing, us­ing 2.5mm cir­cu­lar nee­dles and yarn B, and beg at left shoul­der seam, pick up and knit 20 sts down left front neck, knit across held 36 ( 38: 38: 40: 40) sts for front neck, pick up and knit 20 sts up right front neck, knit across 40 ( 42: 42: 44: 46) held sts for back neck. 116 ( 120: 120: 124: 126) sts.

Twisted Rib round: *K1tbl, P1; rep from * to end. Rep Twisted Rib round un­til edg­ing meas 3cm from picked-up edge. Cast off us­ing the Stretchy Cast-Off as for sleeves.

Set in sleeves and join sleeve seams. Weave in ends. Block gar­ment gen­tly to mea­sure­ments, fol­low­ing any yarn care in­struc­tions on the ball band.
