FAIR ISLE

Row 1 (WS): Purl to end.

Change to 3.75mm needles.

Row 1: Beg on stitch 8 ( 6: 3: 1) of chart and ending on stitch 2 ( 4: 7: 1), work row 1 of chart to end.

Row 2: Beg on stitch 2 ( 4: 7: 1) of chart and ending on stitch 8 ( 6: 3: 1), work row 2 of chart to end.

Last 2 rows set chart placement.

Cont to work chart as set to end of row 70, then rep rows 23 to 70 until Sleeve meas 45 ( 45: 46: 46) cm from cast-on edge, ending after a WS row.

Cast off.

Place a stitch marker at centre back neck stitch.

Weave in loose ends.

Block and press pieces to measuremen­ts, following any yarn care instructio­ns on the ball band.

Join both shoulders using mattress stitch - fronts should meet at the centre back.

Place stitch marker approx. 17 ( 18: 19: 20) cm down from shoulder seam on front and back panels for armhole placement.

Then place centre of cast-off edge of sleeve to shoulder seam, sew top of sleeve to body between stitch markers.

Repeat for other sleeve.

Sew side seams together using mattress stitch, then sew sleeve seams together using mattress stitch.

FRONT BANDS AND BORDER

Using 3.25mm circular needles and yarn A, and with RS facing, pick up and knit

172 ( 176: 180: 186) sts across left back neck and down left front (approx. 7 sts every 10 rows), 67 ( 75: 83: 91) sts along left cast-on edge, 133 ( 149: 165: 181) sts along back cast-on edge, 67 ( 75: 83: 91) sts along right front cast on edge, and 172 ( 176: 180: 186) sts up right front.

611 ( 651: 691: 735) sts.

Place a stitch marker at bottom corner stitch of left and right front panels.

Rnd 1: Purl to end.

Rnd 2: Knit to first mrk, M1, K1 (marked st), M1, knit to second mrk, M1, K1 (marked st), M1, knit to end.

615 ( 655: 695: 739) sts.

Repeat last 2 rounds another 5 times.

635 ( 675: 715: 759) sts.

Cast off purlwise.

SURFACE EMBELLISHM­ENT

Using photograph­s as a guide, work the Swiss darning technique (duplicate stitch) using yarn G at the centre of yarn B motifs. Embroider crosses using yarn H at the centre of yarn C motifs, and using yarn A zigzag between the bands of yarn F motifs.
