BACK

Using 3.25mm needles and yarn A, cast on 133 ( 145: 157: 169) sts.

Rib row 1 (RS): K1, *P1, K1; rep from * to end.

Rib row 2 (WS): P1, *K1, P1; rep from * to end.

Rep last 2 rows once more, and then the RS row once again.

Next row (WS): Purl to end.

Change to 3.75mm needles.

Beg with a RS (knit) row and using the

Fair Isle technique (stranding colour not in use loosely across the back of the work), work the 12-st repeat from Chart A a total of 11 ( 12: 13: 14) times across each row until all 24 rows of chart have been completed, noting that the final stitch of the row will be the same as the first stitch of the repeat.

Cont repeating rows 1 to 24 of Chart A until work measures 42 ( 43: 44: 45) cm from cast-on edge or required length, ending after a WS row.

Place locking marker at beg and end of row to mark armhole.

Cont working in pattern until armhole measures 19 ( 20: 21: 22 ) cm from mrk, ending after a WS row.

SHAPE SHOULDERS AND BACK NECK

Keeping pattern correct, cast off 9 ( 10: 11: 12) sts at beg of next 2 rows.

115 ( 125: 135: 145) sts.

Cast off 9 ( 10: 11: 12) sts at beg of next row, then work in pattern until you have

21 ( 23: 25: 27) sts on your right needle.

Turn and continue on these 21 ( 23: 25: 27) sts for Right Back Neck and Shoulders only, leaving rem 85 ( 92: 99: 106) sts on a holder or waste yarn.

Next row (WS): Dec 1 st at neck edge, patt to end.

20 ( 22: 24: 26) sts.

Next row (RS): Cast off 9 ( 10: 11: 12) sts, patt to end, dec 1 st at neck edge.

10 ( 11: 12: 13) sts.

Next row (WS): Dec 1 st at neck edge, patt to end.

Next row (RS): Patt 46 ( 50: 54: 58) sts, turn, leaving rem 87 ( 95: 103: 111) sts on a holder. Work each side of neck separately. Keeping pattern correct, dec 1 st at neck edge on the next 8 rows, then on foll 2 alt rows.

36 ( 40: 44: 48) sts.

Work 4 ( 4: 6: 6) rows in pattern.

SHAPE LEFT FRONT SHOULDER

Cast off 9 ( 10: 11: 12) sts at beg of next 3 alt rows.

SHAPE RIGHT FRONT NECK

Rejoin yarn with RS facing, cast off first 41 ( 45: 49: 53) sts for front neck and patt to end.

SLEEVES

Using 3.25mm needles and yarn A, cast on 59 ( 63: 67: 69) sts.

Row 1 (RS): K1, *P1, K1; rep from * to end. Row 2 (WS): P1, *K1, P1; rep from * to end. Rep rows 1 and 2 twice more.

Change to 3.75mm needles.

Work in st st stripe of Chart B throughout, repeating 38-row pattern and AT THE SAME TIME, inc 1 st at each end of the

5th row and 13 ( 14: 17: 19) foll 8th ( 8th:

6th: 6th) rows.

87 ( 93: 103: 109) sts.

When incs are complete, cont working until Sleeve measures 43 ( 44: 45: 46) cm from cast-on edge, ending after a WS row. Cast off.

TO MAKE UP

Weave in ends and block gently to measuremen­ts, following any yarn care instructio­ns on the ball band.

Join left shoulder using mattress stitch.

NECK EDGING

Using 3.25mm needles and yarn A, with RS facing, pick up 13 ( 13: 15: 15) sts down left front neck, 41 ( 45: 49: 53) sts across front neck, 13 ( 13: 15: 15) sts up right front neck, 2 sts down right back neck, 54 ( 58: 62: 66) sts across back neck, and 2 sts up left back neck.

125 ( 133: 145: 153) sts.

Row 1 (WS): P1 * K1, P1, rep from * to end. Row 2 (RS): K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end. Rep rows 1 and 2 twice more, ending after a RS row.

Cast off in rib.

FINISHING

Join right shoulder and neckband. Weave in ends.

Place centre of sleeve on shoulder seam and join along each side of front and back evenly with mattress stitch, using stitch markers as a guide.

Join side and sleeve seams.
