The Knitter

Magazine 70

- by Rowan

To celebrate the 70th instalment of its world-famous knitting and crochet magazine, which launched in 1987, Rowan’s designers have been inspired by the theme of ‘platinum’ to produce elegant, luxurious knitwear.

Brocade-like stranded colourwork adorns the ‘Lazurite’ cardigan by Martin Storey, while a more modern, graphic pattern of crosses decorates Brandon Mably’s ‘Cobalt’ jacket. Many of the designs include subtly sparkling threads for a special feel, such as the Fair Isle tank by Kristen TenDyke, and the dramatic ‘Citrine’ jacket by Kaffe Fassett, which has voluptuous intarsia flowers and gigot sleeves.

Fluffy fabrics play a starring role, too, with lots of jumpers in hazy Alpaca Classic and Kid Classic; Erika Knight combines Felted Tweed and Kidsilk Haze for her contemporary striped jumper. More classic designs include cardigans with smart textures and cable patterns.
