THIS RICHLY textured cape will be just the thing for keeping your shoulders warm on chilly days! The design from yarn company Bergère de France has a neat collar and is fastened with two buttons. The thick cables are worked in Bergère’s chunky Alaska 100 yarn; this is available in a palette of pastels and warm shades, and offers a soft fabric and excellent stitch definition.

BACK

Using 7mm needles, cast on 116 sts.

Beg with Row 1, work Chart to end, working rows 11-22 twice for Size 2 only and noting the decreases hidden in the cables on rows 33, 41, 49 and 55 and further decreases on rows 63, 65, and 67 and 69.

Once row 70 ( 82) of Chart is complete, work on the rem 20 sts as foll:

Size 1 only

Next row (RS dec): P2tog, K1, K2tog, K2, P1, K1, K2tog, K1, K2tog, K2, P1, K2, P1. 16 (-) sts.

Size 2 only

Next row (RS dec): P2tog, *K1, K2tog; rep from * to last 3 sts, K2, P1.

-( 14) sts.

Beg with a WS row, work 5 rows as the stitches present themselves (K the knit sts, P the purl sts).

Leave sts on a holder.

RIGHT FRONT AND RIGHT SLEEVE

Using 7mm needles, cast on 117 ( 155) sts.

Row 1 (RS): K2, beg on st 2 and ending on st 21, work Row 1 of Chart to end.

Row 2: Beg on st 21 and ending on st 2, work Row 2 of Chart to last 2 sts, K2.

The last 2 rows set Chart placement and garter st edging.

Cont to work Chart as set to end, working rows 11-22 twice for Size 2 only and noting the decreases hidden in the cables on rows 33, 41, 49 and 55 and further decreases on rows 63, 65, 67 and 69.

Once Row 70 ( 82) is complete, work on the rem 21 ( 27) sts as foll :

Next row (RS dec): K2, P1, (K1, K2tog ) 3 ( 5) times, (K2, P1) 3 times.

18 ( 22) sts.

Next row: ( K1, P2) 3 times, P6 ( 10), K3. Next row: K2, P1, K6 ( 10), (K2, P1) 3 times. Rep last 2 rows once more, then the first of these rows again.

Leave sts on a holder.

LEFT FRONT AND LEFT SLEEVE

Using 7mm needles, cast on 117 ( 155) sts.

Row 1 (RS): Beg on st 1 and ending on st 20, work Row 1 of Chart to last 2 sts, K2.

Row 2: K2, beg on st 20 and ending on st 1, work Row 2 of Chart to end.

The last 2 rows set Chart placement and garter st edging.

COLLAR

Slip the 18 ( 22) sts left on hold from Left Front, the 16 ( 14) sts from Back, and the 18 ( 22) sts from Right Front onto a needle, ready to work with RS facing.
