Break all yarns.

SECTION 2

This section is worked in intarsia using 8 balls of yarn C and 8 balls of yarn D.

Set-up row 1 (RS): Join yarn C, K12, K1tbl, *join yarn D, K11, K1tbl, join yarn C, K11, K1tbl; rep from * another 6 (7:8:9:10) times, join yarn D, K13.

Set-up row 2 (WS): P13 with yarn D, *P1tbl, P11 with yarn C, P1tbl, P11 with yarn D; rep from * another 6 (7:8:9:10) times, P13 with yarn C.

Continue working in st st as set, twisting yarn at each colour change, until 44 (46:46:48:50) intarsia rows have been worked. Break all yarns.

SECTION 3

This section is worked in stranded knitting using 1 ball of yarn E and 1 ball of yarn F.

On each row, cross current yarn over next yarn at first colour change, then strand unworked yarn on the WS for the rest of the row.

You may want to go up one needle size in order to keep an even stitch gauge.

Set-up row 1 (RS): Join yarn E, K5, join yarn F, *K4 with yarn F, K4 with yarn E; rep from * to last 5 sts, K5 with yarn F.

Set-up row 2 (WS): P5 with yarn F, *P4 with yarn E, P4 with yarn F; rep from * to last 5 sts, P5 with yarn E.

Continue working in st st as set, stranding yarns as instructed, until 44 (46:46:48:50) rows have been worked. Break all yarns.

SECTION 4

This section is worked in stranded knitting using 1 ball of yarn G and 1 ball of yarn H.

On each row, cross current yarn over next yarn at first colour change, then strand unworked yarn on the WS for the rest of the row.

Set-up row 1 (RS): Join yarn G, K3, join yarn H, *K2 with yarn H, K2 with yarn G; rep from * to last 3 sts, K3 with yarn H.

Set-up row 2 (WS): P3 with yarn H, *P2 with yarn G, P2 with yarn H; rep from * to last 3 sts, P3 with yarn G. Work 2 (0:4:2:4) more rows in patt as set.

SHOULDER SHAPING

Using the sloped cast-off method

(see Special Techniques), work the sts you cast off in their original colour.

Cast off 5 (6:5:6:5) sts at beg of next 2 rows.

184 (206:232:254:280) sts.

Rows 1 and 2: Cast off 3 (3:4:4:5) sts at beg of row. 178 (200:224:246:270) sts.

Rows 3 and 4: Cast off 4 (4:5:5:5) at beg of row.

170 (192:214:236:260) sts.

Rep last 4 rows another 8 (9:8:9:9) times.

58 (66:70:74:80) sts.

Cast off 3 (5:5:6:6) sts at beg of next 2 rows.

Cast off rem 52 (56:60:62:68) sts for Back neck, leaving a yarn tail approximat­ely three times the length of the shoulder slope for seaming.

FRONT

Sizes 1, 3 and 5 only

Work Hem, and Sections 1, 2 and 3 as for Back.

Sizes 2 and 4 only

Work Hem as for Back.

SECTION 1 SIZES 2 AND 4 ONLY

Change to 3mm circular needles and yarn B.

Work in intarsia as foll:

Set-up row 1 (RS): K25, K1tbl with yarn B, *join yarn A, K23, K1tbl, join yarn B, K23, K1tbl; rep from * another – (3:-:4:-) times.

Set-up row 2 (WS): * P1tbl,P23 with yarn B, P1tbl, P23 with yarn A; rep from * another – (3:-:4:-)times, P25 with yarn B.
