Many of Aus­tralia’s ma­jor art­works are in ur­gent need of re­pair. But as de­bate sur­rounds how, or in­deed if, an art­work should be re­paired, I sought ad­vice from Ce­cilia Giménez, the Span­ish oc­to­ge­nar­ian who be­came world fa­mous when she “re­stored” a fresco of Je­sus at her lo­cal church. How would Señora Giménez fix up some of our na­tional trea­sures?
