Pe­ter Arkle joins NSW Farm­ers

THE board of NSW Farm­ers has ap­pointed Pete Arkle as the as­so­ci­a­tion’s new chief ex­ec­u­tive of­fi­cer.

Mr Arkle will join the as­so­ci­a­tion next month fol­low­ing 12 years with agribusi­ness Syn­genta in sus­tain­able agri­cul­ture, cor­po­rate and pub­lic af­fairs.

Mr Arkle has also pre­vi­ously worked in pol­icy roles for the Depart­ment of Agri­cul­ture and the Na­tional Farm­ers’ Fed­er­a­tion.

Pres­i­dent of NSW Farm­ers James Jack­son said he was de­lighted to wel­come Mr Arkle to the team.

“Agri­cul­ture to­day has many op­por­tu­ni­ties and chal­lenges and we need con­sid­ered strate­gic lead­ers to best po­si­tion the or­gan­i­sa­tion in this en­vi­ron­ment,” Mr Jack­son said.

“The board and the staff at NSW Farm­ers are look­ing for­ward to work­ing with Pete and we have no doubt his ex­ten­sive ex­pe­ri­ence in agri­cul­ture has him well placed to lead the team.”

Mr Arkle said he is ex­cited to be step­ping into the role of CEO.

“With agri­cul­ture a strong fo­cus at a state and fed­eral level, and elec­tions loom­ing in the first half of 2019, the need for a strong and ef­fec­tive voice for farm­ers in NSW is more im­por­tant than ever,” he said.

“I look for­ward to work­ing with James, the Board and the staff as we en­ter this crit­i­cal year ahead, and to make a dif­fer­ence in key ar­eas in­clud­ing land and wa­ter re­source se­cu­rity, drought man­age­ment, and in strength­en­ing com­mu­nity con­nec­tion with farm­ing.”
