decades of dairying came to an end at Shepparton last week with the dispersal of the Morgan family’s herd from Girgarre.

The Morgans’ Holstein and crossbred herd was highly rated, and was in the top 15 across Australia for the Balanced Performance Index.

Dairy Livestock Services auctioneer Brian Leslie said buyers came from local areas and Gippsland to bid for the cows, with many selling from $1600 to $1900.

The sale average for the 200 autumn and spring calving cows was $1438.

“These cows were backed by 50 years of AI breeding and great management by the Morgan family, and the cows were presented in wonderful form, still milking and due for autumn calving,” Mr Leslie said.
