Cab­bage Tree cel­e­brates 125th an­niver­sary

CAB­BAGE Tree Is­land Pub­lic School will cel­e­brate its 125th an­niver­sary to­day with a com­mu­nity event.

The stu­dents have been re­search­ing the his­tory of the school in the lead-up to the cel­e­bra­tion, and also pre­par­ing art­works, prac­tis­ing tra­di­tional dances and com­plet­ing en­vi­ron­men­tal ed­u­ca­tion projects they will share with vis­i­tors.

Bund­jalung artist Digby Mo­ran is a for­mer stu­dent of the school.

An Elders’ tent will pro­vide the com­mu­nity op­por­tu­ni­ties to sit down and share sto­ries of the school.

A new yarn­ing cir­cle will be launched along with a stu­dent­driven, his­tor­i­cal song and video clip of the stu­dents pro­duced with the One Vi­sion com­pany.

As for the en­ter­tain­ment, there will be sto­ry­telling, a jump­ing cas­tle and me­chan­i­cal bull, along with per­for­mances by the stu­dents.

A bar­be­cue and cafe will also op­er­ate.

Bal­lina High School stu­dents have helped the pri­mary chil­dren learn the tra­di­tional dances, along with Un­cle Al­win and So­phie.

The cel­e­bra­tions will be held from 10am to 4pm.
