More pain at the pump for regional motorists

The Observer - - NEWS -

GLADSTONE has seen the highest record petrol prices ever.

According to the RACQ, the average price of unleaded petrol in the region is $1.61 per litre.

The high prices are not limited to Gladstone, with many regional cities experiencing the same pinch.

RACQ spokesperson Lucinda Ross said economic factors were not the only thing to blame.

“Some servos are charging above what we think is fair,” she said.

“Choosing the cheaper retailers will send a strong message to the others to compete for your business and can save hundreds of dollars over the year.”

A new initiative to allow consumers to track petrol prices real time is expected to push prices down.

Mount Isa has been named the most expensive regional city for petrol by the RACQ, with an average price of $1.66 per litre for unleaded petrol.
