Road safety for Calliope
THE Department of Transport and Main Roads has confirmed it is working with Calliope State School and Gladstone Regional Council to address parking concerns during school drop-off and pick-up times.
A TMR spokesperson said the changes would be made through the SafeST program, which targets school safety issues around travelling to and from schools.
“TMR and council have committed to extending the Stop, Drop and Go zone at the school to improve capacity and safety,” the spokesperson said.
“Calliope State School is also serviced by a supervised children’s crossing and flashing school zone signs.”
The traffic issue was raised again this week by residents who took to Facebook after police were seen booking motorists illegally parked during school pick-up time. Council was contacted but did not respond by 5pm deadline.
