SAY GOODBYE TO BAD HAIR DAYS WITH EXPERT’S ADVICE
Forget forking out for expensive salon blowdries, there are a number of beauty hacks that can help you achieve perfect hair for a fraction of the cost.
Hair expert Sam Burnett, who is the founder and creative director of Hare & Bone salon in London, has revealed how to get an enviable mane.
MAKE YOUR OWN WAVES
Instead of toiling with curlers or rollers, why not let your hair take shape while you sleep.
Sam recommended: “Braid, plait or twist your hair around into a bun before you go to bed when it’s 50 per cent dry.”
LESS IS MORE
According to Sam, a common mistake people make when trying to achieve an un-done look at home is going overboard on hair styling products.
He said: “Hair is designed to move so invest in quality products that complement its natural texture and shape without making it look too structured."
He recommended using a frizz control lotion before leaving hair to dry naturally.
AVOID USING A HAIRBRUSH
Nearly everyone with long hair makes very good use of their brush on a daily basis, but perhaps you should think twice before using it after a shower.
Sam advised: “Bristle brushes on wet hair disturb the placement and structure of the hair, resulting in excess frizz.
“Instead, work through the hair with your fingertips or a wide tooth comb for the most natural finish and to ensure curls and waves stay in place.”
SHAKE HAIR OFF
The hair expert said: “Shaking hair up and down can help remove excess water within seconds.”
He recommends ditching the rigorous towel-dry, which can exacerbate frizz, and gently tousling the roots with your fingertips to aid drying time and reduce flatness.
Sam said natural hair thrived on texture, which could be created by massaging in texture spray on the mid-lengths and ends.
This creates a soft malleable hold without the hair looking “too done”, according to the hair professional.
