One team to end it all — why not us?

-

From page 32 ‘‘We are playing a really good brand of football that we are really proud of, but we obviously need to keep playing it, especially against a side like Kyabram,’’ Walker said.

But those steps by the club is why the town is filling with belief.

The Murray Bombers have the best side they have had in years.

And they might get even better this week.

At the time of printing, the Murray Bombers were still awaiting word from VFL clubs regarding the availability of a number of players who could further strengthen the side.

The big question in terms of selection now hinges on star midfielder Simon Buckley.

Buckley missed the majority of the game against United with a hamstring complaint, though cocoach Simon Maddox said it was precaution.

Walker said he would be put through a rigorous fitness test on Thursday night.

‘‘The physio has assessed him as being in the clear for this week, but that doesn’t equate to his match fitness,’’ Walker said.

‘‘We aren’t taking any risks with him.

‘‘We will test him and if he isn’t ok, he won’t play.

‘‘But obviously being the leader that he is, we would love to have him out there.’’

Echuca is up against its own history — a seven-year losing streak to Kyabram.

The Murray Bombers have not beaten Kyabram since the first semi-final in 2011.

On that day, September 17, the Murray Bombers won by 67 points fielding a side which featured Oliver Wines (now an AFL player with Port Adelaide).

But why can’t change tomorrow?

This town believes Murray Bombers.

So tell me — why not us? ■ IN THE netball, the Murray that history in the Bombers are also facing the reigning premiers as they come up against Kyabram.

But in their case, the tables have turned.

Kyabram is not the side it was last year and has struggled so far this season.

The Murray Bombers, however, are a side on the rise, presenting some strong form in the opening three games.

The side looks to be settling into their rhythm as the year goes on, so more improvement is expected.

While Kyabram is not the side they were, a win against the reigning premiers would be a massive boost for the teams year.
