Food that will warm your heart

The Riverine Herald - - WHAT’S ON - By Fraser Walker-Pearce

ECHUCA Neighbourhood House is baking from the heart for a good cause. And they’re asking for your help. If you have a tasty morsel you’d like to donate to ENH’s drive, you can take it in this morning.

From 8 till 10.30am the community organisation is accepting biscuits, shortbread, muffins, cupcakes, cakes and slices.

All of the above refrigerated or decorated.

This time around the theme of the day is warming, as in warm colours and comfort eating.

ENH manager Shandel Keele said you don’t need to follow the theme if you don’t want to.

‘‘You are always welcome to cook can be whatever your heart desires. As long as it is within the guidelines,’’ she said.

The guidelines are that the baked goods are not filled or decorated so that they need constant refrigeration.

These are such things as cream, curd, cream cheese, jelly and other perishables.

Ingredients should be listed with the goods because some of the recipients may have food allergies or intolerances.

‘‘Therefore it would be appreciated if you could provide a list of ingredients with your donation.

‘‘You don’t need to go into amounts, just a simple explanation. For example: standard raising flour, sugar, eggs, milk, vanilla essence,’’ Shandel said.

However if you are putting nuts into your item, ENH asked that be specified and what type of nuts they are.

If there is a number of packages or bundles one list can be provided and ENH will copy and place with the items for distribution.

Baking drop off day is today between 8 and 10.30am at Echuca Neighbourhood House, 261 High Street Echuca.

After drop off is complete, the community organisation finishes packaging and boxing the goods ready to be picked up and delivered by volunteers from Echuca Regional Health.

If you have any questions or queries, please do not hesitate to contact Shandel at Echuca Neighbourhood House on 5482 6914 or email
