Thieves torch stolen car af­ter us­ing it at bur­glary

A CAR stolen from a Nan­neella farm has been used in a ru­ral bur­glary at Echuca be­fore be­ing set alight.

The 2015 Mazda BT-50 ute, stolen from a Fletcher Rd prop­erty overnight Mon­day, was found burnt out in Pianta Rd about 5.50am on Wed­nes­day.

De­tec­tive Se­nior Con­sta­ble Ja­son Hare of Cam­paspe Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tion Unit said the car had been used in a bur­glary at a Rest­down Rd prop­erty about 20 min­utes ear­lier.

‘‘They have forced their way into the home and went through it,’’ he said.

‘‘We’re still try­ing to as­cer­tain what was stolen but some wa­ter ski gear was taken, some of which has been re­cov­ered.’’

Although no ar­rests have been made, Det Snr Con­sta­ble Hare said he was hope­ful of a break­through soon.

‘‘We’re hop­ing we may have some­thing in the fu­ture,’’ he said.

The car was com­pletely de­stroyed by the fire, which was put out by Echuca CFA.

Det Snr Con­sta­ble Hare ap­pealed to the pub­lic for help in solv­ing the crime.

‘‘We would urge any­one who saw any­thing or knows any­thing to come for­ward,’’ he said.
