Thieves torch stolen car after using it at burglary
A CAR stolen from a Nanneella farm has been used in a rural burglary at Echuca before being set alight.
The 2015 Mazda BT-50 ute, stolen from a Fletcher Rd property overnight Monday, was found burnt out in Pianta Rd about 5.50am on Wednesday.
Detective Senior Constable Jason Hare of Campaspe Criminal Investigation Unit said the car had been used in a burglary at a Restdown Rd property about 20 minutes earlier.
‘‘They have forced their way into the home and went through it,’’ he said.
‘‘We’re still trying to ascertain what was stolen but some water ski gear was taken, some of which has been recovered.’’
Although no arrests have been made, Det Snr Constable Hare said he was hopeful of a breakthrough soon.
‘‘We’re hoping we may have something in the future,’’ he said.
The car was completely destroyed by the fire, which was put out by Echuca CFA.
Det Snr Constable Hare appealed to the public for help in solving the crime.
‘‘We would urge anyone who saw anything or knows anything to come forward,’’ he said.
