Campaspe helps fund bridge job
riverineherald.com.au CAMPASPE Shire will jointly fund works on Yambuna bridge, in conjunction with Moira Shire.
Council has approved $57,000 from the Asset Renewal budget to jointly fund the bridge on the boundary of Moira and Campaspe Shires, crossing the Goulburn River.
Yambuna Bridge is currently reduced to a load limit of six tonnes and the proposed works will increase the load restrictions to 12 tonne to support local residents and emergency service vehicles.
‘‘It does highlight the challenge council faces with maintenance of our bridge assets,’’ Cr Neil Pankhurst said.
‘‘Particularly on bridges that have lower mass limits, if there are vehicles which exceed those limits using those bridges it certainly expedites the decline in the life of the bridge.
‘‘We have a huge amount of bridge assets and they are important infrastructure to the community but exceeding the load limits has a detrimental effect on the life of the bridges.
‘‘With the total replacement of the bridge costing $650,000, at $57,000 these repairs are timely and costeffective,’’ Cr Leanne Pentreath added.
Works were identified through detailed bridge inspections, with Moira Shire engaging a specialist bridge consultant to complete design works and estimated costings of works required. The works will bring the bridge back to its original design load of 12 tonne.
