Read all about it: Collins Booksellers stays open
READERS rejoice, Collins Booksellers in Hare St will stay open with new owners buying the business before the closing deadline.
After previous owner Darryl Ronchi announced in September he would be retiring and the store closing today, Cindy Patzel and a new team will be keeping the doors open.
With five years in the world of selling books, Cindy is hoping to garner the support of local bookworms in her latest venture.
She bought the business after seeing the advertisement online and said the store is an important business to have in town.
“As a book lover I think every town should have access to a bookstore,” Cindy said. “We saw it online and now, here we are.’’ Cindy said it was important for her to have a local feel in-store too.
‘‘This is a locally owned store, employing local people and so anything spent here goes to supporting four families — it’s money that will be spent back in town,’’ she said.
After Mr Ronchi’s closing down sale, the new staff is busily restocking the shelves ready for the Christmas rush.
“It (the changeover) has been a bit hectic but it’s all going smoothly,” Cindy said.
“We want every shelf filled to capacity so there’s something for everyone and in anticipation for Christmas.
“The store has a wide range and if we don’t have something we will try to source it for customers.”
With a new catalogue due out in the coming weeks, the team is familiarising themselves with the business and said they’ll be ready for the silly season.
“We also have gift cards and lay-by for anyone who’s not sure what to get, or wants to pay it off before Christmas,” Cindy said.
